Dallas, anyone?
Sunday 31 January 2010
Australians are a nation of list-lovers (think Bert Newton’s 20 to 1) so you’ll probably be interested to hear we’ve topped another one. Yes, you’re living in the country with the world’s least affordable housing.
In a recent study Australia’s houses have been labelled the world’s least affordable with Sydney coming in at number two (behind Vancouver, Canada) and with the Sunshine Coast, Darwin, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Wollongong all making the top ten.
The average Sydneysider is spending nearly 57 percent of their income on their mortgage, compared to the residents of Dallas, Texas, who are spending just 13.4 percent and living in one of the most affordable cities in the world.
In this week’s article of the week ninemsn Money’s Stuart Fagg writes about affordability study and Australia’s housing crisis.
